After the water leaves the sedimentation basins, it travels on to the reservoir where it spends a great deal of time continuing to precipitate the hardness causing ions, making the water softer. In addition, the reservoir provides additional storage. In the event of a major power outage, a good deal of the water in the reservoir can be sent, by gravity, through the remainder of the treatment plant where it can be pumped to town using a diesel, motor-driven, pump. |
