To All Concerned Customers:
Re: Recent
Flooding
As some of you may have heard, the Oskaloosa Municipal
Water Treatment Plant is experiencing flooding on the
South Skunk River
. The Water Department in
conjunction with Mahaska County Emergency Management is working to ensure that
the communities of Oskaloosa and Beacon will continue to have an adequate supply
of safe drinking water. We have been
in constant contact with members of the National Weather Service in
Des Moines
to keep abreast of current and predicted river levels.
As of 10:20 AM Tuesday the 17th,
the National Weather Service has predicted that the
South Skunk River
has crested at 26.4’. This crest
occurred at 2:15 AM Monday the 16th.
The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department would like to take this
opportunity to reassure all of our customers that the water supply is in no
immediate danger. In the event that
we feel circumstances change, the Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department and
Mahaska County Emergency Management will take the appropriate steps and notify
our customers through all means necessary. We
would like to thank our customers for being both understanding and patient with
us as we continue to deal with the current round of flooding.
Please understand that we are doing everything necessary to
ensure the ability to continue to produce the high quality product that you, our
customers, have come to expect. Contingency plans have been arranged, but HAVE
NOT been implemented. At this
time we would ask that should you want more information that you check
Mahaska
County
’s Emergency Management website, www.mahaskaready.com.
There you will find the ability to sign up for the NIXLE system which has
the ability to alert you and fill a critical emergency notification need.
I would urge you, our customers, to look at this tool for future use.
Again, we want to take this time to say thank you for being
understanding and patient as we continue to deal with the current situation.
Sincerely,
Chad
Coon
