After the water leaves the reservoir, it travels through a basin where carbon dioxide is injected to lower the pH. From there the water is sent to the filters pictured below.

Filtration ensures that there is no suspended material left in the water prior to its distribution to town.

The water travels by gravity through the filters, a combination of sand and gravel. After filtration, the water is sent to the clearwell, a large concrete, underground storage tank. On the way to the clearwell, chlorine and fluoride are injected into the water. The chlorine is a disinfectant added to ensure bacteria removal and, the fluoride is a compound used to prevent tooth decay.

The filters are cleaned once a week. A large pump sends clean water back up through the filter media to wash away all of the debris that has accumulated since the last cleaning.
